Once a year we need to introduce
our bucket calves onto pasture. Here, we have set a tripod (winch
corner) next to the gate of the calves' drylot pen, and made a 3-sided
enclosure (bringing the Grazier electric rope back to the drylot fence
near the shed), with the ropes on the low setting, which extends right out
into our yard. By our just opening their drylot gate, the calves
enter their first portable pen.
This is a great way to introduce the calves to grass and
the electric rope at the same time. This fence took us just four
minutes to put up, and since it's end is attached back to the drylot
fence, it uses just two standard corners and the tripod, and a few
lineposts.
We'll easily move this small pen around on the yard
grass for a few days. And once we've got the calves fully introduced
to the pasture, we won't have any fences left behind! |
